Never Forget Emmett Till & Always Remember Trayvon Martin

Never Forget Emmett Till & Always Remember Trayvon Martin

from $250.00

10 Years ago a young black teenager named Trayvon Martin was murdered, on his way home from the store buying candy. He was an unarmed victim of racial profiling whose murderer did not get prison time or charged for their crime. I could not help but recall so many past instances similar to this story. I was shocked and confused and felt the only way to get my thoughts out was to create a work of Art. In modern Black American history we remember Emmett Till. A gruesome hate crime that became a cautionary tale. As a black male growing up in America I take heed to these stories and fear racism lurking in the shadows casting judgement on my black body.

After reacting to Trayvons death I created this piece to deal with the trauma. This work has been used in live protests against George Zimmerman in New York and Florida in 2013 during the trial. Now for the first time I am offering prints of this work to commemorate the life of Trayvon and over a decade of creating art that speaks to the Black American Experience. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Trayvon Martin Foundation.
